Day Options at Port Pirie!
In the late 1980’s a group of parents found it difficult to find suitable programs for their children with disabilities to learn and develop their skills. They decided to create a group for their children where they could take part in activities after school – this was called “The Training Centre”. The group grew larger and the programs evolved, and after a number of years, The Training Centre took on a new name (Living Skills) and moved to the current location on Esmond Road. In 2007, Bedford took over, to form what we know today as Bedford Port Pirie Day Options.
Port Pirie Day Options provides both centre-based and community- based activities where clients can build on their skills. A variety of programs are on offer including cooking, photography, social activities (such as 8-ball, ten-pin bowling), sewing, and community outings There are also volunteering programs that encourage helping out in the local Port Pire community, such as meals-on-wheels deliveries.
Some of the facilities on offer include a kitchen, the main recreational hall, a games area, and a sensory space.
