This World Down Syndrome Day Bedford will celebrate the launch of My Name is Ryan, a heartwarming novel which tells the story of employee Ryan Clarke’s life with Down Syndrome, written through the eyes of his father.
The book is in acknowledgement of Ryan’s 40th birthday and is a sequel to Ryan’s Rainbow also authored by his father Gerry Clarke and published in 2003 for Ryan’s 18th birthday.
My Name is Ryan is a touching tribute to a joyful man with Down Syndrome whose warmth and gratitude light up the lives of those around him. Through heartfelt stories from his family, the narrative tells of Ryan’s journey, celebrating the love and growth that come from embracing life’s simple pleasures.
Author Gerry Clarke explained the sequel was the perfect way to celebrate the milestone of his son’s 40th birthday and to build awareness around the unique gifts that living with Down Syndrome can bring.
“I am thrilled to tell the story of our son Ryan and his journey from 18 years of age to now living with Down Syndrome, as we celebrate his 40th birthday. We are truly proud of Ryan and his unique gifts, which have enriched our lives and created unforgettable and inspiring memories for our family,”
“Bedford has been a significant part of Ryan’s journey and we are delighted to partner with them to launch My Name is Ryan.”
Gerry’s heartfelt narrative captures Ryan’s inspiring transformation from boy to man, his friendships from school to independent living and work, filling hearts with joy along the way.
Ryan is hopeful that the book will provide inspiration and insight for families who support loved ones living with Down Syndrome.
“I hope that people read the book and enjoy learning about my journey. I feel so grateful to my family for their support,” said Ryan.
All proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to Bedford to support more people like Ryan, with learning and job opportunities. A partnership Bedford CEO Myron Mann encourages.
“Providing choice and opportunity for employees like Ryan is at the core of our purpose. It is wonderful to partner with Ryan and his family on the launch of My Name is Ryan to build awareness of profound impact that disability support providers like Bedford can have on an individual’s pathway,” said Myron.
World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated on the 21st day of the 3rd month, chosen to signify the unique triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome, which causes Down Syndrome.
My Name is Ryan will be launched at Ryan’s workplace, Bedford Panorama on World Down Syndrome Day.
