Every day, the Hospitality team at Panorama plan, prepare and make delicious meals for over 400 people under the careful direction of Supervisors Beni and Soren.
Jacqui, who works full-time, is just one of the many who has benefited from the knowledge and skills through Bedford's individual approach which ensures she grows, develops and reaches her full potential. Learning to handle money, prepare nutritious meals and follow instructions from recipes not only makes Jacqui a great employee, but also prepares her for a life of independence. Programs we can only run because of your support. With a smile on her face Jacqui is there to greet customers and always knows what the day's specials are. More often than not she has used her new skills to help prepare lunch and contributes to creating the menu. Planning and making decisions is part of building confidence and a skill that you and I may take for granted, but for many at Bedford it can be difficult. This is why we need your support.
Jacqui loves coming to Bedford, working in a team who supports her every step of the way and seeing her large circle of friends she has met since being here. Although always busy, there is time for a joke and a laugh in the kitchen; a work environment where she is supported, encouraged and feels safe.
Beni and Soren are two brothers who are both qualified chefs. They come to Bedford with a wealth of experience in hospitality, but have the patience and understanding to guide their team to be confident, to try new tasks, make decisions and work as team members.
"Watching Jacqui gain confidence not just in the kitchen but also in customer service has been exciting. I'm not just cooking in a restaurant for patrons, but teaching a fabulous group of people skills that impact their life. I feel privileged to work at Bedford and have the opportunity to make a difference… to change lives," says Beni.
Jacqui has excelled in recent times. With her newly learnt skills she makes great coffee using the barista machine. Our customers not only love her coffee, but also her beautiful smile. Jacqui is one of 1,500 people at Bedford whose life has been changed through the support Bedford provides.
"I've learnt so much since I've been at Bedford and my family is so proud of my new skills. Coming to work each day gives me a huge sense of achievement. I love working in the kitchen, especially when I can make my favourite rockcakes," says Jacqui.
Please help us continue our vital work. Your donation will allow Bedford to partner with more people with disability. Our personalised approach provides flexible choices and the best possible support, training and opportunities to learn and develop - but we can only do this with your generosity.
