Meet Clarissa

Clarissa has been part of the Port Lincoln cleaning and gardening teams for almost 10 years.

As someone with Asperger's, Clarissa can find it a challenge in busy places with lots of people.

Starting at two days a week, Clarissa has now increased her hours and works four days a week.

We caught up with Clarissa for a chat about her work.

What sorts of skills have you learned on the job at Bedford?

“I can clean windows really well now and I'm getting quick at doing them. I can also use the whipper snipper, backpack blower, and mower when we do gardening jobs. We do so much work all over Port Lincoln.”

What is your favourite thing about work?

“I like the people I work with. They are fun and so is the work. Our supervisor Kim is also fun to work with.”

What are you most proud of?

“My best memory at work was conquering my fear of heights. It took time, but with help from my supervisor I can now use the big ladder confidently.”

Where do you see yourself in the future?

Clarissa describes Bedford Port Lincoln as a “great place” for people with a disability to learn to work. “I have made a lot of friends at Bedford and can't see myself leaving for a long time,” she said.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Clarissa!
