Bedford’s Whyalla Learning and Experiences Hub is rolling out a suite of new program streams, providing more choice and opportunity for the local community.
The modernised program structure will further support the Hub’s 28 local clients living with disability to build independence, social connection and potentially new skills for future job readiness.
Whyalla Learning and Experiences Manager, Shelley Jonker explains the revitalised program structure will be central to growing opportunities for both existing and new clients.
We are delighted to introduce a suite of new program streams in 2025 to support our existing clients and expand our impact across the region to potential new clients
International cuisine cooking, sewing, a micro enterprise using produce from the Learning and Experiences hub garden, swimming and the ‘Construction Crew’ are amongst the new programs rolling out in 2025 at Bedford’s Whyalla Hub.
“The expansion of our garden micro enterprise is a wonderful example of a program which allows us to partner with our community and provide new experiences from paddock to plate for our clients,” adds Shelley.
Bedford has been part of the Whyalla community for more than three decades, with their embroidery services operation first launched in 1992, followed by the more recent introduction of the Learning and Experiences Hub in 2021.
Bedford gardening services is also central to Bedford’s Whyalla operations, employing more than eight people, including six supported employees.
As Bedford celebrates its 80th year, CEO Myron Mann is proud of the close connection the organisation has maintained with the Whyalla community over the last 33 years.
“Bedford has proudly been part of the Whyalla community for more than three decades and whilst we continue to innovate our purpose remains the same - to offer choice and opportunity to those living with disability,”
“The program expansion at our Whyalla Learning and Experiences Hub is testament to our commitment to the region and our purpose, with four embroidery employees also accessing our Learning and Experiences programs,” added Mr Mann.
Jerry Richter-Nguyen (pictured) is excited for the new opportunities ahead at the Learning and Experiences Hub. Over the past four years Jerry has found connection and purpose at the Hub and thrives on being part of the community and supporting others.
“I love being part of the Bedford community. It has allowed me to get involved with things I am passionate about, like supporting others and being a champion for those with Down Syndrome.”
“Through the Learning and Experiences Hub I have built new skills and friends, and I am excited to launch my own YouTube program Downs Under with Jerry. I have also recently achieved a job as a digital support person,” said Jerry.
On Thursday 6 February Bedford opened its Whyalla Learning and Experiences Hub doors to the whole community, providing an opportunity to explore the Hub and its adjacent garden.
